Based on work that many have done, it always appeared to me that all pre-WPC95 pins had problems with ghosting. Williams changed the
software sometime in 1996 which solved this issue plus retrofitted AFM,
TZ and WH2O in updated software.
Now I get reports that some earlier WPC machines do not ghost with
standard LEDs.

Does this make sense?
I believed that all pre-1996 used the same exact hardware and software
in switched lamps and would suffer from ghosting.
It does not make sense to me that some report that pins like BSD and
Bride of Pinbot do not ghost, unless there are differences in the
hardware and / or software.

There's differences in the software :)
There were lots of versions of APPL over the years - undoubtedly some
work better with LEDs then others. Also, I don't have any evidence of this, but it's possible as well that the ASIC that replaced a lot of the
I/O chips went through some revisions too.
