    Because Thunderbird is a newsreader, not a News Service and most news
    service provider don't engage in censorship unless a post violates their

    Hello Diane, Thunderbird is as such a third party piece of software
    which makes us able to read usenet groups, it, in itself cannot do the
    work of censoring posts/spammers as it is not designed to do so (and
    thank God for that).
    It is all down to the personal user of usenet newsgroups to do it
    themselves.
    It took me some time, I had to block about 60 odd spammers, but it is
    well worth it though.

    Twenty years ago, it may have mattered more. Today, with the low
    traffic in almost all usenet groups, ignoring posts you don't like
    isn't a big chore, just a minor annoyance.
