    Pin-Del,

If you don't mind putting them together yourself, Pinitech Uno displays are the BEST hands down! You cannot even tell if they are the original plasma displays or LEDs, once the filters are put on and installed. Priced nicely too!

If willing to do kits, these cannot be beat. We use them in several
pins at the Roanoke Pinball Museum and I have them in a S&S at home.
Have been very happy with them.

At one point, he got some defective components and stepped up and
replaced the problems promptly. So great tech support.

I just got the kit for Williams 6, but have not cracked the box yet. Oh
good, something for me to do.

You really need to look into the Pinitech displays, if working on a Bally or a Stern. Once the filters are installed, it is near impossible to discern an original plasma display or a Pinitech LED. AND, they draw the least amount of current of any LED display on the market.

    Pin-Del,
There are plenty of people selling displays for Classic Bally & Stern machines but I can guarantee none of them come close to the quality of Pinitech displays. As Jim stated above if you look at a machine with 1/2 Pinitech displays and half original displays you will not be able to figure out which one is which if you have the backglass on your machine.
Chris (High End Pins) uses exclusively Pinitech displays on all his Classic Bally & Stern machine restorations that he puts LED displays in and has complimented them several times on his post.
Wayne (Pinitech) is my son so I might be a little partial but I also know the time and effort he put into getting those digits perfect and how much money he spent on tooling to get it right. He also spent a lot of effort being sure his displays used less power than anything else on the market. Wayne isn't one to self promote his products but if you are looking for the best at least give his products a look.

    Derrill Jr,

I just finished building Wolffpactech's Williams System 3 - 6 kit. The instructions are online and downloadable as a PDF.

Pretty straightforward. I like to save time by inserting all of the
IC's at the same time, then soldering them all at once. I repeat for
the resistors and then the caps.

The LED displays are a bit annoying because the tabs cannot easily bent
to hold them in place. But I eventually figured out a way to hold them
in place, then slide them onto my workbench. They are protected with a
film to keep them from scratching. I solder one lead, then turn them
over to insure they are flush.

I don't have any experience with other's kits for comparison, but
    Wolffpac's work for me.

I would like the option of using IC sockets. Not sure there is the
    physical clearance for them.

I think it is funny with pinball people. For years people complained about the period instead of a comma and wrong angle on the cheaper digits so Wayne (Pinitech) spent thousands of dollars on tooling having custom digits made up for his displays. And now people prefer spending a couple dollars per display less buying from other vendors.
When Wayne quits selling these displays due to lack of demand people with then start bitching again about LED displays not looking as good because no one else is using custom digits. I don't blame Wayne for getting discouraged with doing pinball stuff.

    Pin-Del,
I am not offended and people are free to buy what ever they want to buy. But as a father I am just disappointed to see his son "go the extra mile" to do what it took to create something as nice as the displays he has designed and then have him to a point he has basically walked away from the hobby do his disappointment with the results (as far as sales volume).
As far as asking people to go to his web page to get the instructions instead of wasting paper and including them in every kit that is what companies are doing these days. Almost everything you buy new these days comes with those same instructions. The new digital camera I just bought sends you to their website for directions. Cell phone companies have been doing that for years. I am "old school" also and don't really like that but I fully understand why it is being done.
Sadly in a couple years I think Wayne will be 100% away from offering any of his stuff for sale. He has been "phasing away" from doing the pinball stuff for the past couple years and is "over it" at this point. I guess the "good thing" is at least our machines will have nice looking LED displays in them.
I should learn just to keep my stupid mouth shut and let the chips land where they will. But I was the one who encouraged him to make the investment into those custom digits so in all honesty I am more disappointed about the smaller than expected sales volume than he is. At least it has been a great learning experience for him.

It is nice of you to support your son. His products are great. I put
his in my EBD, which is a pin I value highly and will keep forever.

For me, the price difference is not worth it for an inexpensive game.
For lesser pins, I just want working displays that look good. I am not
a collector with a bottomless wallet.

"I think it is funny with pinball people."

We are not all the same. I think it is wonderful to offer different
products at different price points. It gives people the option to
purchase what they want and can afford. I hope Wayne keeps up the good
work so that people have that option. I can understand your frustration
with those who 'do not see the light'.

    Wow,
I'm sorry if offended anyone ( Skip ) from asking a simple question .
Yes, My Wife lost her job like a lot of other people & I'm a cheap ass anyway .
I have bought from Wayne & was happy with what I got & thought it was a great deal ! ( Yes, it really is), But I had no instructions other than "They are on my web-page",
That said I'm down to 6 games & 3 of these I have owned close to 20 years & I'm still plugging along.
60 years old, A brain tumor in my head & one wrapped around my spinal cord that can not be removed with out me in a wheel chair & I still bother to help anyone out with parts for their games .
For what "anyone" is selling these Kits for they can at least print 6 pages or so of instructions since I did not design this stuff.

Sorry, Not trying to tick anyone off,But a Bally Star Trek is not worth it !

    Pin-Del,

Sorry to hear about all the issues Pin-Del. I have 'only' been around
RGP for 20 years or so. You have always been helpful and generous to me
and everyone else. I appreciate all the support and wish you and your
    wife the best.

    Take care.

    Pin-Del,

If willing to do kits, these cannot be beat. We use them in several >>>> pins at the Roanoke Pinball Museum and I have them in a S&S at home. >>>> Have been very happy with them.

At one point, he got some defective components and stepped up and
replaced the problems promptly. So great tech support.

I just got the kit for Williams 6, but have not cracked the box yet. Oh >>>> good, something for me to do.

Thanks Larry !, This is the kit I'm going to buy, I Hope the instructions are better than the last kit I bought .

You Take Care & I Hope things up your way are going OK ?

    Derrill Jr,

    I just finished building Wolffpactech's Williams System 3 - 6 kit. The
instructions are online and downloadable as a PDF.

I can understand your frustration with those who 'do not see the light'.

Sadly Wayne is likely making less profit on his displays than the guys using "off the shelf" digits once he factors in the additional cost of tooling for his custom digits. He knew there would be a "risk" investing thousands of dollars having those custom digits made but he was hoping there would be enough people in the hobby wanting more original looking displays to justify that investment. Sadly that has not been the case so far.
He has plenty of "loyal customers" but "Joe average" just doesn't seem to care about the nicer look of the Pinitech displays. So like many other people who have attempted to do something good for the hobby I see a time where his displays will no longer be available because he has moved on to other interest.

It always makes me sad to hear about anyone with health issues - especially health issues that can't be "fixed". I know you have helped hundreds of people here over the years. Try to stay positive and enjoy everyday the best you can.
Ever since Wayne almost died when he was seven years old I have had a new outlook on life and enjoy everyday I am above ground. As I get older I get more and more frustrated with what I can't do but instead of worrying about that I channel my energy into being thankful for what I have and what I can do.
    Best of luck! Skip
