• Mars God of War Missing game over sound

My Mars seems to be working perfectly after putting in a new MPU, but it is missing the final game over sound effect. It gives the game over speech ("Battle is over, Mars is supreme")but then there should be a sound effect which slowly fades out over about 10 seconds or so. But I don't get any sound at all. Any suggestions on where to look?
Also, I don't get a sound for s16 when grounding pins on the sound board edge connector. All the other sounds are there. But I'm not sure if Mars uses s16 or not. Appreciate any help!

I suspect you are missing a connection in one of the sound lines between
the MPU and the sound board. Check for continuity from the output of the
TTL driver on the MPU through the lamp driver board (testing at the IC
legs!) and then to the sound board S1 - S16 inputs at the ICs themselves.

I'm going to assume MARS uses S16 as it has speech. Possibly S32, but
I'm too lazy to pull the schematics.

Pretty sure that will get you the solution to your problem.

Thanks for the help! I'm ordered a manual from PBR so I can trace the sound signals. Hopefully, I will locate the problem.
All other sounds and speech are present during game play. Is it likely an open circuit would only result in the one game over sound effect from being missing while all others work?

The Game Over sound could be a specific combination that is missing
because one Sx line is not connected. Afraid I can't offer more
assistance than that as I am medically indisposed and can't go to my
shop for a while to run a simple test on my System 80 test fixture for you.

    Good hunting!

If you ever feel up to doing any further investigation back at your shop, I would greatly appreciate it! I have peeped out every single trace I can identify between boards and can't find anything open. The only thing I am finding is that I get no sound for s16 when grounding the edge connector pins on the sound board. Not sure if s16 is used or not.

Update on the missing sound problem. I swapped the sound board from my Spirit into my Mars. Switched the ROMS over and the speech chip which Spirit doesn't use. The game over sound came back with the Spirit sound board installed in Mars. Also, putting the Spirit ROMS in the Mars sound board and installing it into the Spirit and all sounds were present in Spirit!
Somebody smarter than me can maybe explain what is going on, but for now, both games work correctly with each others' sound boards installed, with no missing sounds in either!
