The Stargate (evening)
Double stars and small asterisms make fine telescope deep sky targets while bright moonlight hides spring galaxies. The Stargate asterism in Corvus, the Crow is a treat. It is formed by a 5 arc-minutes-across triangle of
magnitude 6.6, 6.7, and 9.7 stars surrounding a second smaller triangle of magnitude 7.9, 8.3, and 11 stars. The Stargate is located midway between the bright stars Porrima in Virgo and Kraz in Corvus. Alternatively, aim your telescope 12 degrees due west of Spica. Search for the asterism using a low power eyepiece, and then swap in something stronger.
