Bright Moon Passes Spica (all night)
In the eastern sky commencing after dusk on Monday, April 22, the nearly full moon will be shining very close to Virgo's brightest star Spica, which is 263 light-years away from our sun. Use binoculars to track the pair across the
sky through the night. The moon's orbital motion will shift it closely above (north of) and then farther to the left (east) of Spica. Before dawn the moon will be positioned quite far to Spica's upper left (celestial east-southeast).
