Well that's odd, it appears my message was cut off. It looks good on my end, but when I tried to logon to a different BBS to look, is was cut off. Lets try again maybe.

    Hi all,
For the past couple of months I have been working on a personal Raspberry Pi project I'm calling Vintage Pi, and I thought I would share it. It is the reason why I even created the Vintage Pi BBS, to be the resource and home base of the project.
Vintage Pi Project a Raspberry Pi image designed to transport users into the nostalgic realm of vintage computers, recreating the authentic experience of bygone eras. Unlike the detached feel of running emulators on modern devices, Vintage Pi strives to bridge the gap, providing an environment that mirrors the genuine sensation of using historic computers. This project goes beyond the typical application on your computer, aiming to capture the essence of interacting with the actual hardware, rekindling the unique charm of computing from the past.
The idea is that you would log into a particular system. For example if you wanted to use the Commodore 64, you would log in as c64 with the password c64 and that would log you into the c64 login with its on look and feel. Right now I only of the Commodore systems, but the next step is Apple, then Tandy.
Here are the goals of features that I am trying to achieve.

    Unique look and feel.
    ---------------------
Each login will have their own look and feel to tryto match the systems using Cool-Retro-Term, and a slightly customized Midnight Commander as the file browser/launcher. By pressing F2 on a disk image or file, you can choose if you want to mount the disk image or autoload, and get to choose which system to load it into. For example c64 ntsc/pal, or even an alternative system like the newer c64c.

Connect to the INTERNET via BBS
    -------------------------------
I also want people to get the experience of connecting to BBS's not only withing the linux system, but also within the emulated system as much as possible. For example in the C64 login, there is a virtual drive 11 mounted with ccgms on disk, and TCPSER running as a systemd service ready to visit C64 boards.

    A Persistent disk mounted
    -------------------------
Each of the systems would also of a virtual drive mounted where common "everday" programs would exist like the aforementioned ccgms with the c64. I would also like to take this time to ask any Commodore pros to suggest if there are any what you would consider "everday" programs you would like to see on each of the Commodore systems (/PET/VIC20/CBMII/C64/C128/Plus4). This virtual disk can also be a place for the user to store there favourite programs instead of always loading the disk image.

    Documents Folders
    -----------------
I also wanted to give the users the original feel of reading documentation like it was before the Internet. In the Documents folder of each system are QR codes to reading material from archive.org like manuals and magazines, to give it an authentic feel of learning the system, or entering a type-in program from Magazine's.

I invite everyone to check it out, and let me know what you think. The image and torrent are available on my BBS (vintagepi.asuscomm.com). If you are a sysop of a BBS dedicated to vintage computing I also invite you to logon and add your BBS to the BBS lister.
Please let me know if you have any thoughts or ideas from this little project of mine.

    As your daily driver?

No I don't use it as my daily driver, however I do like to play around with retro computing. Unfortunately I do not have much room to buy and have all the vintage computers I would like to play with, and there something that feels detached when just running an emulator on your PC. So I wanted to create something for my self with feels like running the old systems.
The Vice emulator that is running on the Raspberry Pi is the GTK version, this is only because I find it to run smoother than the SDL, however it simply runs in a very limited Blackbox window manager, and starts up in full screen.
When I do feel like visiting a C64 BBS, I do prefer booting up the Raspberry Pi and running ccgms within the emulator.
I know there are other projects like RetroPie, which I like to use for console emulation, but it does just feel like running a game launcher.

I see this often, and the only common thing I can see is that its from Mystic.

I'd be curious to know if 1/100 has the corrupt message, confirming that the issue originated from Mystic, or if it is something that hpt does to a Mystic message that mangles it.

What's in your logs around the time the original message was sent? IE: Did it just export this message, or was it doing other things as well?

I did check the logs, nothing else was running at the time. there was no errors in the echo-out log, nor the poll log. the Poll log sent out 1,982 bytes, which seems about right for the size of the message.
The one thing I can think of is that I originally wrote that message offline in a text editor, and then used the upload content from Mystic's Full Screen Editor. The basic text editor I used did not carriage return the lines, (except the paragraphs). It was able to display correctly on my BBS, but it may have tried to send the packets with long lines, and the hub may have rejected anything passed a certain line length.
The last resend was just a copy and paste, in which I let Synterm paste the message right into the Full Screen Editor, which allowed the editor to word wrap correctly as I believe it just thinks I am typing it in.
This is just a theory, but I have noticed some oddities when trying to "upload content"

OK, that could mean that hpt didnt like it for some reason.

OK, so long lines shouldnt have been an issue - but I do recall mystic having an issue with long lines in one of it's releases... (But if it uploaded to the hub, then that might not be it...)

It would be good to capture an outgoing packet if it happens again, but need to be able to consistently create it seems to be the issue...

This is a really interesting project. I called the BBS and downloaded a Raspberry Pi image, but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet - I am definitely looking forward to playing with it.

Which Pi will the image run on? Pi 400?

That may have been my fault, when bringing up the menu to quote a message I may have selected save message instead. I did try to delete the message before it exported. Now I know why someone would use the "skip_online = true" in the ExportEchoMail mutil.ini settings

It was made on a raspberry pi 4, and most of the software was compiled on the Pi4, I believe it may run under the pi 400
