    i need a parallell to ethernet adapter for my XT laptops (8088 book and amstrad ppc640) the xircom one is just too expensive
    i wondering about diy or opensource solutions for it?
    i need dos packet drivers for it too

    I'm not aware of anything. Best I can suggest is to try one of the serial port-ethernet adapters that are out there. Lantronix make a few and there are other manufactures of these devices & you can get older models pretty cheaply (at least for less than the xircom) on ebay.

    I have a spare still in the bag that came with a cisco firewall. I am a network engineer by trade and have spares from various appliances - we use the serial cables to connect with the management interfaces.
