a memory manager. I got my first 120mb HD, and went from 640k to 4MB RAM, shortly after 5.0 came out.

the 10 being the secondary partition. Smaller drives tended to be fairly
rare and were full height 5.25" jobbies. Used to run the BBS with that
scheme reversed, boot from the 10, and use the other 30 for file areas.

³ I definitely never used FreeDOS's command.com with MS-DOS. When I was using ³ MS-DOS, in the early-mid 90s, I don't think FreeDOS existed yet. Now that I ³ recall, I think it was a TSR called DOSKEY that MS-DOS came with that allowed ³ recalling past commands with the up arrow.

Correct! I think 5.0 had DOSKEY, and I know 6.x did.

Yeah, adding DOSKEY to my autoexec.bat was always one of the first things I did. :)

I hate using *DOS w/o DOSKEY. :P TBH, if I'd of found Unix/Linux/BSD back in the early DOS days I'd of switched over way back then... while the experience wasn't on par for some years, it was still the way to go IMO. (Unless you were married to mainstream software and whatnot...)

We still have BBBS on *nix back then. :P

Back then I used a lot of mainstream software, much of which was made for DOS. That included a lot of PC games, but also utility software & such.
