• Windows Plus Themes?

From SoDa7@21:2/150 to All on Friday, May 03, 2024 05:37:21
Does anyone remember something called the possibility to customize your Windows experience with Windows Plus! themes?

They were these things that allowed you to customize wallpapers, cursors, Windows sounds, and even screen savers.

I remember some of my favourite ones, which I'm going to list here, at least 3 of them:

    - Coca-Cola Theme
    - The Simpsons Theme
    - Bruce Lee Theme

What were some of your favourites?

... "Bother!" said Pooh, as his VCR ate his only Ranma 1/2 tape.

It wasn't a Windows Plus! theme, but I remember kitting out my Windows
98 systems with a NiN wallpaper, changing colors of windows and changing
the system font to OCR B, and thinking I was *so* cool.

Then, I went down the LiteStep rabbit hole, and found dozens if not
hundreds of themes that radically changed the look and feel of Windows.

I didn't care for it due to performance issues. However, I just checked and still have the box with all the content.

I remember those.. I didn't use them a whole lot though, as I tended to make my own choices for my Windows appearance, background, screen saver, pointers, etc..

Some of these might have been built in so pardon me if they are, but two of
my favorites were a travel theme and what I remember as an old time radio theme.

The former included a wallpaper of a passenger RR station/terminal that I
saved and am using on linux machines to this day. The radio one had a neat screensaver that, if you had speakers, included some old radio sounds.

IIRC, I would not think the radio one would have taken that much memory to
run but I guess back then it did as, while I enjoyed it, I never kept it
around for long because it was a hog.

The version I had would have been for Win95 and didn't include a Simpsons Theme. Being a big fan of the show, especially back when it was still
    "newish" I would remember that!
