• Different users handles when writing a msg?

From paulie420@21:2/150 to All on Saturday, June 29, 2024 14:37:32
Its pretty weird - at 2oFB, when I write and email, make a msg reply or post a message, it often times shows some OTHER user handle as opposed to the user I'm writing to/replying to...

For example, I just wrote a message base reply to 0zZ-U but Mystic showed Warson as the To: line during the edit... when I /s, and view the message its To: Warson - what gives???

My user data files are large; 1500 users (not a toot, but...) could it be some kind of data overflow/leak/corruption(!x!x!x)???

Do any other sysops see this happening?? Other users have mentioned it, too - it kind of happens OFTEN @ 2oFB.

I am not a Mystic sysop so perhaps am not the right person for the question, but I will chime in to say I have observed the phenomenon (goddamn that's a difficult word to spell) as well - for sure on 2oFB but I can't recall if I may have had it happen elsewhere or not.

I have gotten the impression sometimes that if another user logs onto the BBS while I am writing a message, after the message pops up notifying that someone logged in, the To: field of the message has changed. But when the message is saved, it does get saved with the original, correct, name in the To: field. So I wonder if the notifications might be triggering some corruption.

... not tooting my horn, but I've only experienced it fairly recently. I am *guessing* its something to do when the user.dat file is super big, but I am not sure about that at all.

Ah - you know what, I think you might be on to something there... 2oFB runs a custom .mpl for when another node logs in; that special pop-up with a pause. I'm gonna look into it and see if thats bleeding into the To: - I can test it using a couple nodes...
