I've been having some issues with my VM locking up around 3:00 in the morning a lot lately causing the system to be down until I think to check it. My BBS runs on a VirtualBox VM running Windows 10 32-bit, mainly because of the DOS Doors not working on the 64 bit Windows 11 host server.

So I was thinking I could move the BinkP/mail traffice back out to the host computer and let the VM be dedicated for Telnet/BBS traffic.

My BBS is installed on my host "D Drive" which is also mapped to the VM "D Drive". I know I have to install the BBS program in a second location and poin the data directory to the main path, but I'm wondering if anyone has done anything like this before and do y'all have any pointers?

how is it locking up? i'd think you would want to know that first.. who's to say it won't just continue to do so configured the same way outside of the VM?

I'm still trying to figure that one out. Haven't seen any logs relating to it so I'm not sure if the BBS is causing it or something to do with the VM. A lot of times it happens around 3:30 AM, but not every day, and sometimes its at other times.

I run a WIN 7 32-bit VDi in a Linux server to run DOORS under a fossil driver. On the same VDi, I run a second Mystic install that is used for the port 23 attacks that add the blocking IPs to my main (shared) data file. I do not run mail on the 2nd instance, nor doors, etc. So I am almost running what you are discussing and it works good. I may also have added SHARE to the AUTOEXEC.BAT if I remember just in case since they access the same BLOCKED IP data file but I would need to look when I get home.

You are running WIN 10, so much different platform. Anytime I setup a Windows 7 environment, my MAIN OS drive is E: (there is never a C:). Takes a bit of finagaling, but it works and to me is much safer just in case.

So the short answer to your question is No, I do no have sharing issues (but again, I am WIN 7 32-bit virtual).

Go thru your EVENTS and see if one is setup around that time and give it a TIME OUT so it releases and moves on if it fails?

I think I had a similar issue back when I added a new game, and it was failing because I forgot to upgrade the .exe code to allow working in 32-bit (as it was a 16-bit door).
