• Setting up FIDO and Spooknet

Looking to add fido and spooknet.

I watched / followed mystic guy's "add fido" video but it was incomplete. When I search for how to join fido I get the same cryptic BS I used to get back in the 90s.

"find <somefile> on a Fido bbs and do what it says."

They don't even offer you that file on their own web site! Grr. I was looking for some more step-by-step stuff since I've been out of this game for almost 30 years.

I created the hub entry in mystic (3:770/1) and assigned myself the testing node address of 3:770/999.

But without a unique node address, I can't use areafix to subscribe to echoes and I can't seem to find the so-damn-super-effing-secret file that gives me the rest of the details I need to request a node address.

Furthermore, I should probably be in zone 1 since I am in the US, and Mystic Guy is Zone 3. Not that it really matters in today's age of global everyhing.

Anybody can point me to where I can find the mystery instruction file?

Also any similar instruction information for joining spooknet?

Looking to add fido and spooknet.

You'll need to contact the NC of the net you want to join.

I created the hub entry in mystic (3:770/1) and assigned myself the testing node address of 3:770/999.

You may get a node number in the net you want to join but after that you can connect with any nodes you choose to get mail and files.

I also connect at 3:770/1 but you'll have to arrange a link at that (or any other nodes) node.

Furthermore, I should probably be in zone 1 since I am in the US, and Mystic Guy is Zone 3. Not that it really matters in today's age of global everyhing.

Where are you located. I'll have a look in the nodelist and see if I can find a local NC for you to contact.

For Fidonet more nearby you might want to try Net 387, "South Central Texas Net."

NC is Marc Lewis, serving as Interim Coordinator, according to the nodelist.

For Spooknet, you will want to send an application to spooknet@phatstar.org - you can probably e-mail that address for an infopack which will have the application and instructions as well.

I would contact Mark Lewis as DustCouncil suggests.

I'd send him a netmail if your mailer and tosser are setup for that or email him if you can get ahold of his email address.
