I'm running mystic on ubuntu.

I've seen reports that when participating in EchoMail that "the system will automatically send it out within 60 seconds."

My system is not doing that, so there must be some config that I am missing. I am running the mail manually now.

Is this as simple as setting it up in cron or is Mystic itself supposed to trigger these events. The Wiki on the Mystic web site wasn't terribly useful, and The Mystic Guy's videos are both 5 years old and primarily focused on Windows installations.

I just run it from Mystic's event editor. Mystic can be setup to toss mail when it arrives and also to send new mail when it is entered on your BBS.

It uses semaphores. Mystics mailer will create echomail.in when mail is recieved and mis will watch for that file in your semaphore directory and toss mail when it is found. The BBS will also create echomail.out and when found it will scan out mail from your BBS.

"./mis server" or "./mis daemon" has to be running to watch for those files and run the appropriate action.

Mystic Guy talks about how to set this up in his videos. You will want to watch 'Connecting to a Message Network - Part 2' and 'Part 3' for information on setting up the 'mutil' half of the equation:

Just remember the differences between Linux and Windows commandline. For instance, you'd type './mutil' instead of just 'mutil'. And, the most recent versions of Mystic have removed './fidopoll' and now use './mis poll' in its place.

For the second half of the equationt, you will want to watch 'Mystic Internet Server + Events System', specifically the events system, starting at 11:30 minutes:

Keep in mind the differences I already mentioned. Your semaphore events' 'Shell' entries are actual commandline instructions. So, remember to use
'./mutil' instead of 'mutil', and './mis poll' instead of './fidopoll'.

This should be enough to get your new BBS to send and recieve properly. Also check your hourly network polls, to make sure that your BBS is doing its best to keep up!

Rumour has it that Mystic Guy is working on updating his video tutorials. This rumour may have been started by the Guy himself. (o_-)

Pay closer attention to his videos on his Raspberry Pi installation, as this is pretty much the exact same as doing so in Ubuntu. And, it's not *that* difficult to 'convert' the instructions from Windows to Linux, as long as you remember the minor differences in the commandline.

I did watch his PI vids and it got me as far as I am now. I didn't watch any of the windows vids since I was on Ubuntu and they were 5 years old.

I guess I will go back and watch the Windows ones to get the events set up.

As I mentioned, the differences when working with Mystic are pretty minor. And the information is still valid, for the most part, even after five years. The major changes were pointed out in Mystic Guy's latest video.
