Although I'm posting from Synchronet right now, I'm also looking at Mystic as part of my BBS nostalgia trip!

I'm a bit stuck with how Message Areas and Groups interacts in Mystic. I have created both of these (as part of configuring fsxNet). However, the part I'm stuck with is: How do you flag an Area as belonging to a particular Group?

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious....

You simply set the correct List ACS to have it displayed in the appropriate Message Group (when "joining" a group). E.g. if fsxNet is Message Group #2, you would set:

List ACS ³ g2

...in the Message Base settings for each fsxNet Message Base.

For reference, I've found the following to "do the right thing":

List ACS ³ g2
Read ACS ³ g2
Post ACS ³ s20g2&!fd
Sysop ACS ³ s255g2
List EACS ³ g1

The "g2" is because fsxNet is Message Group #2 here.

If I remember correctly, the Read ACS affects things such as what is located in message scans within a group (Find Messages --> Group), so should be set to the same as List ACS (so that the "right" messages are found).

Security level 20 is for Regular Users here, and the "not user flag D" is for the ability to disable echomail posts for a certain user, should the need arise.

The List EACS is really only for the case where someone is using *your* Areafix and *you* are the hub/uplink; the g1 refers to EchoMail Group (N.B.: Not Message Group!) #1. That's the groups in which you place your downlink echomail nodes in, if you have any.

Is there an easy way of bulk making this change for existing groups? It doesn't look like there are easy to edit text files with this information in on the system....

Is there an easy way of bulk making this change for existing groups? It doesn't look like there are easy to edit text files with this
information in on the system....

I think there was some kind of copy-paste support for things like this (pr maybe that was for creating new areas), but I never dared to try it...

I found it!

Hitting TAB highlights 1+ groups in the list. You can then select 'Bulk Edit' (Q key) from the menu and it allows you to change attributes for everything selected.

This allowed me to change the security for all of them in one hit. Nice.
