I think the problem of the 90s era for me was due to having some differences, i was not cool with the other
contemporaries of the scene, where people were a bit insecure and basically banned me from 2-3 bbses in my area code.
Yeah, there was a lot of not getting along in the 90's here too. Frankly I just wanted to get away from where I grew up and not look back. It was like being stuck with cavemen.
I had an uncle give me some advice when I went to Europe to study for a while. he said, "When you get back and you visit, there will be people who don't want to hear it. They are happy in their very small place, and that's ok for them. Don't take it badly if they're dismissive." It was good advice and I think he understood the nature of our secluded part of New York. He finished his life in Brooklyn after years abroad.
I didn't interact much with the locals on our BBSs, but I did get into my share of threats of bans.
