We had a scheduled power outage at Casa Reality, from 9:00am to 3:00pm this wednesday.
I have a couple of UPSes, a CyberPower 550 on my desktop, an APC SmartUPS that powers my homelab, and a small UPS on my cable modem.
my desktop UPS battery died, so I ran an extension cord from the UPS to my desktop. I'd connected the UPS to my Synology NAS, which, aftr doing a little research, is running NUT (Network UPS tools).
I installed a client on my Proxmox server and my Windows desktop, so now they'll receive notifications from my NAS when the power goes out.
On the morning of, I wondered if they were going to shut the power down as I was working just fine at 10:00. Looked outside of my office and realized I'd been on the UPS for 30 minutes! I'd plugged my desk lamp into the UPS, didn't realize we'd lost power outside of my office.
I shut everything down, did some work offline for an hour or two, then plugged an inverter into my car to power the fridge - I'd bought way too much food for it to go bad!
When I had my Prius, it'd run in Standby mode all day long and run the engine when it needed to charge the battery. With a standard ICE engine, I needed to keep the engine running.
I got through the outage, I was able to get work done, I kept my food from spoiling and streamlined my network in the process. I'll call that a win.
