Facebook finally blocked my account because I was continually
undeleting and redeleting my account when needed. But today I am blocked and I am so greatful I have a real excuse not to go back.

I'm thinking of moving over to the Fediverse full time. I've had accounts there for years, but never made a serious move there. I think today is
the day...
I deleted my account months ago, and I don't miss it that much. TheI wish it was easy to do that. I've run social network apps and websites

people or groups, it's probably of limited utility.

The big social networks are just too addictive for people to want to leave. But that's fine, at least here, and other places aren't so busy
and full of spam. It's a breath of fresh air.
All I do on my phone is, phone calls and SMS. Any time someone asks if I have some app on there, I tell them I have a dumb phone even though its a perfectly fine LG android job.
I bunged in purity, I'm not sure if the PC end of things is different to the phone apps or the PC is already filtering stuff, but purity doesn't seem to see much to tidy up.
usenet groups I used to follow.. like CSA2, comp.sys.apple2. But otherwise there's nothing I need out of FB.. I'll collect photos of

That's so funny, because I'm the exact opposite. I don't
like to talk on the phone, so I almost never use the phone
for voice calls. It's my computer, my instant messenger, my
camera, my address book, my calendar, my music player....
basically it's everything except a phone for me.
I do still wish there were something better than Facebook.
And that Facebook's CEO had a better grasp of what security
and privacy mean... but I digress.

I don't do much on it anymore -mostly just forward memes, but I use Facebook Messenger a *lot*. Oh, and Ilike to send out pics of my kiddos (I have three, my 18 year old son justwent off to college, a 16 year old son and a 14 year old daughter) to myfamily, since we are spread out kinda far.I do still wish there were something better than Facebook. I think Telegram is a fine alternative. For extra privacy, it gives the option of enabling a direct private chat channel.

we could have done it all through email or chat. I'm lucky I have no
cel service where I live, but I have to maintain a VOIP service for
work related calls.

I was thinking more of the main functions of Facebook, not necessarly Messenger. But I agree that Telegram is pretty good as a secure instant messenger.

From what I understand, you can't just create an account on a PC only, it has to be tied with a phone number. At least that was the case last time

You can install Telegram on a PC as your *first* and only
device, no problem. But you *do* need access to a device that
can receive SMS for the security code. That is, at registartion
Telegram requests a phone number where to send the 4-digit
activation code via SMS. It can be ANY phone you have access to
and control of. You can even use the disposable phone numbers
services if you want.
Thereafter, you don't need the number to activate Telegram on
future devices at all. If you proceed to activate Telegram on
an additional device, it will also send the activation code to
your all your installed Telegram programs too.
I installed Telegram on a T60 laptop. Received the SMS on my
Blackberry phone. Later, I installed Telegram on another
laptop, a DT, my Blackberry, and even on a Pixel smartphone
doesn't even have a SIM or phone number.
All the messages on Telegram are synchronized. In otherwords,
you can be in the middle of writing a message on one device,
let it run out of battery juice, and simply resume mid-edit on
another device.
All that combined with TgBBS, Fidonet echos are not restricted
to any one device.
