Does anyone still use the old DOS BBS programs (doors and whatnot) anymore with Synchronet? Do they still even work properly?

Not really. Most of the geeks back then didn't live a very healthy lifestyle (low exercise and bad food choices). So it wasn't too much of a surprise to find out that, 30+ years later, he had passed away.

I'm running some DOS door games on my Synchronet BBS (on Linux, using dosemu).
I only couldn't get "Railroad Empires II" to run, it just crashes
after startup...
But besides this, most games that I've tried are running fine.

Leave old and synchro away. Yes I use DOS programs. List is one of my favourites. I have quite a big collection of different versions of this program. Still looking for some .....

I can agree here - I remember first seeing the iceedit door/add-on on some Remote Access bbS and thought it was the bee's knees!! I believe back when we ran Telegard we liked using it. And icechat...

Yup, I'm writing this in IceEdit right now! :)

I also liked IceZModem, I *think* that's the one that let you play games
while downloading files. I remember getting a money order back in the day to register both IceEdit & IceChat at the same time, IceZmodem came along later on my board.

I vaguely remember hearing about IceZModem, but I never used it. I wish I had, because I always liked trying different file transfer protocols back then.

Yes, they were nice. Although I remember that IceEdit used to lock up from time to time -- not sure what was the cause. But it was a nice editor.
