    Hi All,

    Once again I have questions.

    Does anyone know how a BBS user can see the origin of a posted message using the message readers on most BBSs?

    Example this message, where did this message come from, the BBS, or network address.

    I can see you posted this message from Agency BBS at 21:1/101 by looking at the origin line, the last line of the message beginning with "* Origin:".

    It's also possible to look at the kludges and see the path and seen by lines. It's not always possible to see them but on a Mystic BBS pressing "V" while viewing a message might display those lines, I'm not sure if a certain security level is needed.

    For Mystic BBSes, you can press "V" to view message kludges, e.g. showing the MSGID kludge. (Most probably other BBS software offer something similar.)

    Using Synchronet and DDMsgReader here and the orgin line is the last line of the message as quoted.

    Yep agreed, and if the reply had been via QWK .REP packet uploaded to Agency then the origin/tearline would reference QWK/Mystic BBS in it.

    For Mystic BBSes, you can press "V" to view message kludges, e.g.

    Using Synchronet and DDMsgReader here and the orgin line is the last
    line of the message as quoted.

    Is your name part of that address, like Vk3jed!21:1/101 ?

    If sending a netmail, you'd need to know my name and address (which is not what you put - the address is wrong, check my origin line. :) ). And bang paths are not used on Fidonet.

    Netmail addresses are normally username at address (they're entered separately in most BBS software), but Synchronet does use the familiar username@address format. :)


    ... Logic and practical information do not seem to apply here.
