• IcyTerm 0.7.7/SkyPix

From Omnibrain@21:2/150 to All on Monday, May 27, 2024 09:32:12
Just released icyterm 0.7.7 - adding skypix support:

    https://github.com/mkrueger/icy_tools/releases/tag/IcyTerm0.7.7

SSH is still a problem (russh - the lib I use can surely need help on that) - there are key exchange algorithms missing.
(I never heard about Skypix until lately)

0.7.7 contains many bugfixes I would say upgrade to 0.7.7 if you don't need ssh+mystic connections.

I also hadn't heard of Skypix until recently (about 20 seconds ago). Are you (or anyone reading) aware of BBSes online with Skypix graphics?

Always great to see more IcyTerm updates! Thanks for sharing all this work!

I don't know of another. Skypix is a bit like a subset of RIP. So it was quite easy to implement. (In contrast to let's say IGS which I've ~75% - I'll continue that at some point)

Only thing that needed some work were the amiga fonts. It was a thing invented by an Amiga BBS System. It's very basic compared to RIP/IGS but you can do some basic operations (rect/circle/fill/fonts/palettes etc.).

Updated the builds btw. first ones had a bug :/. Damn everytime I test the builds from the build server they work :/.

Y needed a little break form icyboard config tool development and skypix was perfect for that.

If anyone else has a 'funny format' let me know. In the pipeline are IGS/Mode5 (not sure about M5 - but IGS is fun).

I wouldn't recommend writing new SkyPix games. Mostly because the capabilities are a subset of RIP and RIP has a higher resolution.
(Which is still quite low even for the 90')
And there aren't that many RIP titles out there :(
