Running Synchronet seems to be like running a Linux server. aside from the BBS i have sshd and sftpd running; connecting from my desktop PC to the BBS computer all the time. then there's all the javascript, bash scripts, etc.

What system monitors do you use?

I was reading about Munin and Monitorix last night and thought I'd see if they were any benefit to me.

Any tips on keeping logs and monitoring your Debian server?

I don't know what you mean 'like running a linux server'

synchronet is a server suite and the various servers are not really similar to any counterparts from other sources you might find. there's differences in configuration and setup and performance and other features.

I've used Zabbix, Nagios, and CheckMK in large production environments. All are open source and have community/free versions. CheckMK pretty much does it all and has plugins for everything.

Synchronet keeps a lot of logs in ../data & ../data/logs which can be viewed in the terminal, as well as /var/log/syslog
gtkmonitor is also an sbbs tool that can be used as well as /sbbs/exec/umonitor.

This isnt what you're referring to, but I'm using an uptime service
called uptimerobot, and have them monitoring my telnet port, binkp
port, shoutcast station and ping. They check once every couple of
minutes and text me if something goes down. I don't get any
diagnostics out of it, just up/down.
