NetFlix and others place storage near network egress locations to ensure faster delivery of data. This is why AWS CloudFront makes an amazing CDN. There are also other locations, such as where CenturyLink, Spectrum, AT&T, and others have their megapops, ensuring their storage is located close enough to ensure a region has lower latency access to these streaming services.
