What would you do with the albums there on the beach? Look at the cover

I mean, if you're "stranded", would you have some kind of a player

    listen to these albums?

Assuming M meant CDs (vinyl would be a bad idea on a beach
which I would assume M meant on an island which I would gather
    mean a "tropical" island):

    4: Recharble batteries
    5: Solar panels
6: something to play the CDs.

You bring vinyl, and a fine needle and you gently run the needle between the grooves and listen very, very carefully and closely.

How do you know the island is deserted and without power? For all we know with this question, the island could be inhabited and have a small town or a resort or something. A hotel room with power might be available.

While all of that is true, the word "stranded" would make me believe it
    has none of those things.

If you were in a town, or a hotel, you wouldn't be stranded. You'd go
    along home.

Also, you made an assumption that it's an "island". All he said was a "beach". Plenty of beaches that aren't on an island.

    I was being silly.

But even in a town, you could be stranded. If your car breaks down, for instance, you could be stranded if you didn't have an alternate means of transportation.

Also, you made an assumption that it's an "island". All he said was a "beach". Plenty of beaches that aren't on an island.

Ah, true.. I had the idea of a desert island in my head.

Stranded doesn't have to mean being completely out of modern amenities. You could be on an island that used to be a research station and the
radio transmitters have all been scuttled, yet there is a shack with operational
battery bank charged by tidal or hydro power.

And if you had electric, wouldn't you be trying to make contact with civilization so that you could become unstranted? :)

Usually, stranded means not on purpose and somewhere that you cannot leave.
If it is not deserted and without power, chances are you can leave.

Now, if you are intentionally stranted in some tropical paradise where
bringing all of your belongings is not practical... :)

Maybe not. Maybe you want to be left alone for a while.

Besides, having electricity does not mean having comms. Maybe you have enough tech on you to listen to your music collection but not to send a radio signal.

I don't know about you, but I think the thought experiment is stetching beyond suspension of disbelief at such point...

Exactly! Listening to "albums" while stranded is pretty low on my list
