Change and advancement in technology will always be viewed with skepticism and uncertainty. A jobs are eliminated, new jobs appear. Graduates may be doing work that did not
exist before they went to college.
My concern is whether or not this generation coming out of college can
adapt quickly.
It'll vary by person, but (hopefully) this won't all change overnight.
Cutting-edge employers with six figure salaries for new grads are going to be a
trend-chasing rollercoaster as always, but there will be plenty of old-school shops
that resist change.
And, of course, if you're going into a field because you're passionate about it (rare, I know),
then hopefully ChatGPT will be just another tool to learn and apply.
The big thing I worry about will be the people already a few years out of college, but not yet
experienced enough to have seniority. That was my position when COVID hit (not a new grad, no
new grad sympathy, but not experienced enough to be worth the not-new-grad paycheck). and it made
job finding an absolute bitch. If you're new enough to be disposable, but far enough out of
college to be behind the curve on AI, then you're going to have a very, very hard time.
