Maybe it's the area I live in, but people here generally don't talk to other shoppers while shopping. But different activities can lend themselves to meeting people more easily.
One of the things I love about where I live is that nobody ever bothers me. It's a very elitist feeling place for people that are not from here. We don't wave on the road when someone lets us in, we just keep to ourselves.
I've learned to really appreciate this. I had a business trip to El Paso recently and I was in the elevator and some random was asking me what I do for a living. Leave me the fuck alone, that's what I do! hehe

I'm not opposed to having a conversation with random people (that's how you meet people in some situations), but there are some places and situations where it just doesn't seem to happen much.

I have to be in a mood to flip the extrovert switch, honestly. I'm perfectly happy just keeping to myself most times. I used to travel frequently for work and it got exhausting talking to people randomly so I would put earbuds in even if I wasn't using them, and people would leave me alone.

I think that these two sentences say a lot about you.I recommend reading those to yourself a few times in a row then spend a little time reflecting on them. Self-reflection is a good thing.

also traveling alone is creepy.
That statement is just plain silly. A lot of people travel alone, wheth it's because of work, events, family. Single people travel all the time whether by themselves or with family or friends (like a girls trip to Vegas!). Traveling alone or traveling while single can be absolutely thrilling, it's already like an adventure. Meeting someone while on an adventure? That leads to wonderful stories that a person can tell for a lifetime!
Yep. If I wanted to go somewhere but didn't have anyone to go with, I would

You make less noise when barefoot. Clothing also makes noise. Do like the first nations folk and rub bear grease all over to keep mosquitos from biting. No one planning a break-in or home invasion expects to be stalked by person wearing only bear grease and fire pit ashes.

Shooting is an option for self defense. If you're out investigating a noise, then the other guy's lawyer would say you were out hunting their client. If the other person turned out to be unarmed, claiming to be "in fear of
imminent death" is hard to convince a jury especially if you're a big and tall store customer.

Well, that way you can move around pretty much silently, ya know. You need every advantage you can get when engaging with "prowlers" - they're very crafty. Also, hammers are much quieter than guns.
If you go for stealth, what you must do is wear a nijna outfit and use shurikens instead. Just wearing a ninja bandana makes you ten times more stealthy.

It's still considered hunting to the prosecutor. You're the one being tried for killing a person on your property. If it doesn't look like a clear, justified excercise of self protection, the law is not always on your side. In Texas, they have laws that allow you to kill people on your premises after sundown if caught removing personal property. That is based on a cattle rustling law. Even then someone that is trespassing cannot be killed because they're on your property.
The "other guy's lawyer" will come in the civil suit depending on the verdict. I'm sure it wouldn't bode well for you if you bashed in some punk's head with a hammer. The forensics guys aren't on either side. They tell it like they see it.
In my late 20s, I was lucky enough to go to Amsterdam for six weeks for work. It was one of the best adventures of my life. I hit all the major attractions, a bunch of the minor ones, ate in what seemed like every restaurant in the city, rode through the canals on a tour boat, went out into the harbor, spent an afternoon at the beach... I do have to say
there are bits I don't remember because of a combination of alcohol and marijuana.

Thank you for elaborating. My concern is the courts are not so friendly to those who take law into their own hands.
Lately I read that illinois and New York are trying a "no detain" system where a suspect does not hget jailed unless they are considered a flight risk and won't show up at court. The woke crowd feel too many people are in jail because they can't pay fees or post bail. Let's see how this works when
their dates to show up in court are missed.

Now, if she and the person she was with weren't actively discussing something, then it would be better.
