I'm pretty sure Mystic doesn't support receiving external emails but I'm just wondering are there any scripts or apps out there that will let you receive emails and relay them through the BBS? For example, have someone email bamageek@davesbbs.com and it come to my inbox in the BBS. I know it introduces a world of spam and phishing but I'm curious. Back in my VBBS days when the internet was still new they were just integrating things like that.

I don't know if there is specific for that in Mystic, but I'm pretty sure you can do it by using a gateway. There is software that routes mails to fido-like networks. And you could setup a point and route that to your point netmail which could be an area in Mystic. I don't remember exactly but I used something called a UUCP gateway back in the 90s to route emails to fido, I will try to find which was exactly the software I used.

In my previous message I told you to use a Fido to UUCP gateway to rout emails, and I just found the software I used. Its called UFGATE. It seems it still has a site: https://lns.com/papers/ufgate/

Not sure if still works, but worth trying.

    Howdy,

I'm pretty sure Mystic doesn't support receiving external emails but I'm just wondering are there any scripts or apps out there that will let you receive emails and relay them through the BBS? For example, have someone

    Synchronet supports receiving email.

You may be able to spin up a synchronet, and have it forward incoming mail to your mystic bbs as netmail... I havent tried it for netmail forwarding, but it might be worth while trying...

I've thought about adding an SMTP gateway to clrghouz, but I haven doubts of how useful it would be, given that most email is full of HTML (so you get a netmail with html gibberish, unless there is a good tool to strip it...?).

I've been looking for a UUCP gateway for Win32. I've got IREX, but the outbound gateway doesn't seem to work, or at least I don't have it configured right. Inbound works. I'd love to get this working...

htmlastext works pretty well, and can handle wildcards in the command line.

This looks really complicated, but I'll read the docs. Is there anything
with an easier config and less executables?

It is as complicated as it was in the 90s to setup that. I don't remember exactly, but it was a pain the ass.
There is probably something easier now, but I don't know. I'll investigate.

Internet Rex can gate a domain into netmail areas, using hmailserver or any other mail server. I couldn't get it to work right because I was using .msg files and had packed them with fastecho, making them unusable. Once I
figured that out, it works great! I think Charles Cruden is still selling or giving out reg codes (not sure which).
